XPontus is a Java-based XML editor designed for
text editing. It aims to provide a free
alternative to commercial XML editors. It has been
reported to run correctly on Linux, Windows, Mac
OS X, Solaris, and FreeBSD. There are many
installers for platform convenience.

This release is an entire rewrite of the software, which now uses a plugin architecture. Code completion (XML, HTML, and XSL) has been added. A few bugs from previous releases have been fixed, and some user suggestions implemented. The code structure of HTML/XML documents has changed. XPath support has been added. HTML documentation generation from XML schemas and DTDs has been implemented. This release will be able to use file system abstraction, which means that an FTP file and a local file will be look all the same to the application.

A menu has been added for a "Recent files list".
Dom4j is now used to
indent XML files, which will correct the bugs
which occurred while
trying to pretty print an XML document. XPontus
now runs in a single
instance. Drag-and-drop has been corrected and
seems to work well now on
Windows and Unix/Linux. The editor can be used
with "Open With XPontus
XML Editor" under Windows and Unix/Linux.

Partial caching of XML Schemas and DTDS was added.
Completion was added to close opened XML tags. The
encoding issues were fixed. A dialog to customize
the colors was added. Drag and drop support was
added. Some arguments were added so you can use
"open with XPontus XML Editor".
