Whale is a GNOME 2 application which provides a simple interface for creating playlists and storing songs on your Apple iPod. For example, you can add a song by simply dragging the file from Nautilus to the Whale window.

XML is no longer used to store information for reading. Most of the song metadata is read directly out of the iTunesDB. The loading of the database should be much faster.
Sometimes all playlists were displayed as Masterplaylists (without any name) on the iPod. Sometimes exceptions were thrown during the reading of mp3 file metadata, even when the data was not needed by whale at all.
This version no longer uses Pyperl and the mktunes Perl script from gnupod, and is now fully written in Python. There are small GUI improvements with the accelerators and others.
The following features are working now: creating playlists, storing songs on the iPod, dragging files from Nautilus to the Whale window and thereby storing them on the iPod, and automatic update of the iTunesDB file when needed.
