The most obvious new feature is the completely rewritten UI (now lurker runs good and looks good doing it). It now features grouping for mailing lists and active threads. The active threads page includes a graph of the new posts over the last 14 days and the total number of posts in that period, while the groups allow large sites organize their lists. There have also been several backend improvements documented on our site (compression, includes, tools).

It is now possible to jump to a given date within the set
of search results as well as to refine the search at the
current date. The lurker CGI files may now also be
installed outside of the document directory for
situations ala cgi-bin. The dependency on kdenetwork
has been relaxed for use in server environments.
Finally,
all known bugs introduced during the rewrite have been
squashed.

This release marks the transition of from alpha to beta. The code has been largely rewritten in C++. There is no longer a daemon which monitors mailboxes. Now the CGI reads the database directly, and there is an index command into which new mail is fed. There have been major speedups in importing, and the new design makes it robust in the face of import failure.
